Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh were jailed for 8 months i.e. 259 days in one of Iran’s most notorious and dangerous prisons because of their Christian faith. Born and raised as Muslims in Islam dominated country, both of them grew unsatisfied with the teachings, principles of the Islam and converted to Christianity after their personal encounters with Jesus. After their encounter with the Living God, Marziyeh and Maryam dedicated several years distributing Bibles and talking about Jesus in Tehran. They were arrested in 2009 for promoting Christianity, and were ordered to renounce their christian faith or face death. Refusing to turn back from Christ, they spent almost a year in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, where they had to endure the harsh effects of Islamic law on women.
After international pressure from United Nations and Human Rights groups, they were released from jail. However, they left Iran to continue the Lord’s work in united states. They both authored a Book named ‘Captive In Iran’.
They spent several years in Tehran distributing the new testament Bibles to the local people. We spent time going to malls to talk to people and tell them about Jesus. There were days, where we had more than 1000’s of new testaments in our basements. We later started two underground house churches to minister to people.
Today their book is a blessing to many to know about one of the darkest places for christians. We pray that God would use them mightily for his Glory.
